July Sensory Friendly Events in Oklahoma City
July Sensory Friendly Events in Oklahoma City
AMC Sensory Friendly Films
First up is the AMC Sensory Friendly Film program, a unique initiative proudly presented in partnership with the Autism Society. AMC tailors these showings specifically for those living with autism and other special needs by keeping the lights turned up and the sound turned down. This environment encourages attendees to feel free to express themselves – get up, dance, walk, shout, or even sing!
The Sensory Friendly Film program runs on the second and fourth Saturday of every month for family-friendly films, and Wednesday evenings for mature audiences. So, you’ve got multiple opportunities in July to catch a movie in an accepting and supportive environment. Remember to check the local theatre listings for specific showtimes. For more information, check out their website .
Regal’s My Way Matinee
Regal Cinemas’ My Way Matinee program mirrors AMC’s initiative by turning the lights up and the volume down for the first show of the day on select Saturdays each month. It’s another safe space for guests to be themselves and enjoy Hollywood’s latest offerings in their own unique way. For specific details, check out their website .
iFly All Abilities Night
iFly believes that everyone should be able to defy their own limits and dream big, regardless of their physical or cognitive challenges. Their All Abilities Program offers individuals the chance to experience the thrill of indoor skydiving, with personalized guidance from a highly-trained, world-class instructor. This program runs on the first Sunday of every month, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Check out their website for more details.
Sensory Sensitive Sundays at Chuck E Cheese
The fun continues with Sensory Sensitive Sundays at Chuck E Cheese, available at multiple locations across OKC. These special sessions offer an environment with less crowds, dimmed lighting, and reduced music and show volume. This event is perfect for families looking for a quieter play experience. It’s available two hours before the restaurant opens to the general public, on the first Sunday of every month. For more information, visit their website .
NBA Thunder’s Sensory Initiative
In collaboration with KultureCity, NBA Thunder offers sensory kits designed to mitigate sensory overload. These kits can be checked out during Thunder game nights and other arena events. Plus, there’s a specially designed calm, quiet space at Section 112 for fans who may need a respite from the high-energy atmosphere of a game, or for nursing mothers. Check out their website for more information.
This July, Oklahoma City is truly shining as an example of inclusivity with its range of sensory-friendly events. Join us in these initiatives and let’s work together to create a more understanding and accepting environment for all. Remember, everyone has unique strengths and abilities; let’s celebrate them this summer!
